The Association of Integrative Research, Counselling and Psychotherapy offers a comprehensive strategic integrative coaching program that lasts two and a half years. The first year covers foundational coaching skills and personal development, allowing you to start practicing as a coach upon completion. The remaining 18 months focus on advanced coaching techniques and supervision. The curriculum encompasses basic training, advanced training, personal development, and supervision. Sessions are held on full-day weekends (Saturday and Sunday), with the first year alternating between training and personal development, and the second year alternating between training and supervision. Each December, the schedule for the following year is finalized and posted on the coaching department’s website. After the first year of training, you can begin practicing coaching in your own practice and/or within various organizations.
The foundational phase of coaching training is conducted during the first year and is divided into theoretical and practical components. Each 20-hour module consists of up to 4 hours of theory, 11-12 hours of practical application, and 5 hours of individual work. This basic training is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively implement interventions and techniques with clients. Emphasizing hands-on practice—since coaching cannot be learned solely from books—the modules can be delivered either in-person or online, depending on your chosen training format (in-person, hybrid, or online). The basic training in strategic integrative coaching comprises six modules, including one focused on organizational coaching. Read more: basic training
In the second year, you’ll participate in advanced training in strategic integrative coaching, where you’ll delve into expert-level techniques, interventions, and conceptualization models. Each 20-hour module consists of up to 4 hours of theory, 11-12 hours of case supervision, and 5 hours of individual work. This phase is designed to help emerging coaches develop strategic plans and select appropriate interventions based on each client’s unique needs. Depending on your chosen format (in-person, hybrid, or online), the advanced training can be delivered in-person or online. The program includes six modules, specifically focused on organizational coaching and detailed further: Advanced training in organizational coaching
Personal development is a fundamental aspect of Integrative Strategic Coaching training. Studies indicate that a coach’s personal growth is closely tied to their coaching effectiveness. Without a thorough understanding of ourselves or having fully addressed our own personal challenges, we risk unintentionally transferring our emotions and thoughts onto clients. For new coaches, mastering active, empathetic listening and clarifying client issues free from countertransference is particularly challenging.
Group personal development sessions are offered in-person or online, depending on whether you choose the in-person, hybrid, or online training format. Participants will take part in six group modules, each comprising 15 hours of group therapy and an additional 5 hours of individual work based on the Personal Development Workbook. Detailed personal development topics are outlined on the following pages under Personal Development Themes.
Supervision begins after the first year of training. In the early stages of your coaching career, you may encounter many uncertainties, making it essential to have experienced colleagues to guide you through challenges and boost your confidence. Our group supervision modules, conducted online, last 15 hours each. If you need additional one-on-one support, you are welcome to contact any of our association’s supervisors.
During this supervision phase, you’ll work with your own clients, whether in private practice or within an organization. To meet the supervision requirement, you must accumulate at least 100 client contact hours and submit supervision protocols for a minimum of five supervised cases. For more details, please refer to the Supervision section.
Peer Supervision (Intervision)
Intervision sessions are held online each month at no extra cost for ACCPI members. Each session runs for 3-4 hours and is designed to offer immediate assistance in urgent client-related situations or when quick feedback is needed. Although these sessions do not replace formal supervision hours, they provide valuable additional support for trainees. The dates for intervision sessions are shared monthly through our WhatsApp group.
Examinations
Throughout the training program, you will be required to complete both theoretical and practical assessments. The theoretical exams are based on our course manuals and can be taken orally (via online format) or in written form (for hybrid and in-person formats). There are two theoretical exams: one at the end of the first year and another at the conclusion of the entire program.
At the final stage of training, you will also complete a practical exam, which involves developing a coaching plan and selecting appropriate interventions for a specific case. Additionally, you must submit at least four essays and book reviews, as well as a dissertation paper.
The exam schedule is announced each December of the preceding year to allow ample time for preparation.
