Research within the Association of Collaborative Research, Counselling and Psychotherapy Integration  (ACCPI) is structured into research programs, each governed by specific regulations and led by one or more directors. These directors facilitate research activities by collaborating with both domestic and international professionals, engaging ACCPI students as research assistants or researchers.

The research operations are overseen by the Research Committee.

Psychotherapists and coaches, regardless of their approach, must assess the empirical support for the treatments they employ. Evidence-based practice involves blending well-supported treatment knowledge with considerations suitable for each unique client and cultural context.

The American Psychological Association defines evidence-based practice as the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise, tailored to the client’s traits, culture, and preferences. This practice stresses the importance of experimental outcomes to confirm the efficacy of treatments over controls or alternative methods, ensuring clients receive proven effective treatments. Effective treatment is characterized by the psychotherapist’s judicious choice of therapy, necessitating that therapists stay current with psychological research.

Two decades ago, few psychotherapists paid attention to the scientific evidence supporting their methods. However, the landscape of psychotherapy has evolved considerably since the early 21st century. Psychotherapists are now expected to substantiate their chosen methods scientifically and understand what is effective and what is not.
